Chapter 8

By the time Brian returned to the B&B the dinner crowd was thinning out, but to his surprise the man, Mr. Turner was still sitting in the corner. Elliott came running down the stairs and jumped right into his father’s arms. “Daddy, Daddy, you came back.” His little arms hung on Brian’s neck for dear life.

“Of course I came back,” he returned the boy’s fierce hug. “I told you I would and a man keeps his word—right.”

Nodding his head up and down, Elliott agreed, “Right.” Brian set him back on his feet. “Hi Mr. Harrison.”

JD stooped down, “Hello Elliott. It’s good to see you again,” he held out his hand to shake the boy’s.

“Well I’ll be damned,” Douglas said with a smile, “It’s a little Brian.”

Brian’s smile beamed proudly as he took his son’s hand. “Elliott, these are some of my friends, you know Mr. Harrison,” he pointed to Douglas. This is Douglas Hylton, Calvin Johnson and James Brooks. Everyone,” he said with a wide smile, “this is my son Elliott.”

“Oh—My—God. I done died and gone to heaven.” All the men turned to Redbone who was standing in the doorway to the restaurant. She looked from one to another. “Suzie Mae you better get out here. That Mr. Harrison fella and all the men from the tall dark and handsome club is out chere.” She looked around happy as a cat sitting in a bowl of milk. “Damn it’s enough of ya’ll to last me a good week.”

Suzie Mae came out of the kitchen, “Well Mr. Harrison, welcome back. Is Ms. Tracy with you?”

J.D. hugged Suzie Mae, “Hello Suzie Mae. It’s nice to see you again. Tracy is home with the children.”

“She let you come back here by yourself?”

“No ma’am. As you can see she sent an entourage with me.”

“A mighty fine one at that,” Redbone grinned.

Suzie Mae turned to her granddaughter, “Gal go in the kitchen and pull out some chicken so I can fix Mr. Harrison some dinner. Go on now.”

“Hello J.D., Calvin,” everyone turned to the stairs.

“Oh hell,” Douglas said as he stared at the woman standing on the stairs.

“Mommy, Mr. Harrison is back. He came in with my daddy.”

She smiled at her son holding his father’s hand. It was wonderful to see him so happy. “I see him Elliott.”

“Hello Caitlyn,” J.D. said watching to get some idea of how angry she was at him.

“Is it my imagination or does she remind you of somebody?” James whispered to Calvin.

“It’s the eyes,” Calvin replied.

“She’s the whole package,” Douglas whispered. “How in the hell did you get her?” He looked at Brian with a raised eyebrow.

Brian turned and frowned at his friend. “Don’t.”

Douglas shrugged his shoulders, “I’m just asking.”

Caitlyn had reached the bottom of the stairs when Brian turned back around. “Caitlyn you remember J.D. and Calvin. This is James Brooks and Douglas Hylton.”

“Hello Mr. Brooks,” she smiled and shook his hand. She reached up and hugged Douglas. “Douglas I’ve heard so much about you. It is really nice to meet you in person.
